Q&A With AV On the Radar Featured Artist: Huey Blue
Ambient Vibes had the opportunity to ask Huey Blue some questions. I hope you enjoy it!
Tell us about "All on Me." What is the story behind the EP?
All on Me is a collaborative EP with rapper & producer, J Nui. It was the follow up to a single we’d released in 2020 called “All On You”. We were super keen to expand on the sound we’d combined through our different styles, inspired by hiphop, RnB and neo soul.
What is your favorite track from the EP? Why?
Hello World! For the energy we were able to capture through the sample and drums. It’s a positive track to try to move forward with after the previous year that was.
How long did it take you to complete the project?
The recording came together quite naturally, we spontaneously decided to hit the studio back in August 2020 for 5 days. J Nui and I handled all the production, mixing and visuals for the project.
Did you collaborate with any other artists or producers on the project?
Along with J Nui, we enlisted rapper Eric Ondre, drummer Mitch Clark (The Vernons, Layer Cake) and rapper/pianist Alexander Keys.
What first got you into music?
My dad - he was the go to guy in our small country Australian town for new music. He had everything covered from punk, new wave to funk.
What draws you to your preferred genre?
To choose one genre is tough, especially when there’s so much fluidity nowadays. As a bassist I am drawn to rhythm and groove.
What is your most used emoji?
🌎
What would you do if you were the one survivor in a plane crash?
Start looking for some bush tucker.
What's next for you? What are you working on?
My next solo EP “Time Well Spent” is due out in September.
Between solo projects, and other band pursuits (The Vernons and Layer Cake) the end of the year is jam packed! I’ve never been more excited to continue producing and releasing new music.
