Q&A With AV Queer Hits Featured Artist: Fruut
Ambient Vibes had the opportunity to ask Fruut some questions. I hope you enjoy it!
Where are you from? Does it influence your music?
I am from north New Jersey. I am not sure if new jersey has influenced my music specifically but growing up i definitely listened to a little bit of everything. I think you can find a good spoonful of all my favourite artists in my music now.
When was the deciding moment that you knew you wanted to be a musician?
I was playing my friend in college a song i wrote and realized it was the most honest i had ever been. I knew that music was an artistic outlet i could learn about myself through, and i have been striving to learn more ever since.
How did you come up with your artist name? What's the story?
My favorite food group happens to be fruit, and there was something very satisfying about fruit being sweet, tart, bitter, juicy and bright. I’d like to think my music is just as versatile and expansive as that.
We personally love double singles. Tell us about "As Hell/Whiskey"
As Hell and Whiskey are cousin songs to me. They both were written about a specific time in my life where i was watching myself indulge and be destructive while trying to maintain relationships. I wanted to give them as a pair because it felt like they were written to be heard back to back.
What would you do if you were the one survivor in a plane crash?
Depends on where I am, but i’d probably go into objective thoughts only mode and shield myself from sadness. My brain is pretty good at that 😭
What draws you to your preferred genre?
My brain gravitates to rap and rnb just as easily as it gravitates towards bubble gum pop. i love exploring ways i can bring a harder beat onto a melodic song, embracing how chaotic my song writing is and just calling it indie pop.
Everyone has a good app idea. What’s yours?
i want an app that tells me the best vegan food in philly. Like i want the top three best vegan tacos, vegan cookies etc.
The zombie apocalypse is coming, who are 3 people you want on your team?
I’d probably choose my partner, my dog and CT from the Challenge.
What's next for you? Tell us everything?
Right now i’m working on new music with my producer FortuneWest. We are working on songs that feature my new voice after transitioning which is very exciting to me. I can’t wait to be able to perform some of this new stuff we have been writing. I am also working on a streetwear brand. I can’t say too much about that but i am very hype about it.
