Q&A and 5 Facts With Featured Artist: L E A
Ambient Vibes had the opportunity to ask L E A some questions. I hope you enjoy it!
What first got you into music?
ah the infamous question, I have been doing music since I was really little. My mom put me in choirs and plays in school and thats where I started. I was singing in the church so that was like a main part of where I started to find my voice. I started writing when I was in 5th grade and putting out music in high school and early college and taking it seriously as my career now.
What is your creative process like?
I don’t have the best answer for this. I kind of pull it out of no where when I am inspired by feelings or emotions. I sit down at a piano or guitar or just write a melody in my head and I word vomit honestly that’s kind of how I talk sometimes, I ramble, and my music comes out that way too. Sometimes my vocabulary is not amazing but when I’m writing it’s very poetic and I start using words or phrases that I don’t normally use when I am talking so it’s kinda magical to me because that’s not normally how my brain works.
Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
I get a little stressed before I go perform but I am not really a nervous person. I think I’m more nervous of making a good impression on people or having people like my music and everything, I’m a Leo, so it kind of all stems from that. I don’t get stage freight at all but I know it’s just a crazy process to get on stage and perform. All these things run through my head but it’s always worth it in the end.
How do you deal with writers block?
Honestly I don’t think I deal with it, if I can’t write I can’t write. I think I just accept it and just move on until I get inspired again and sometimes that means not releasing for a year. Other times it means having something happen or someone pushed me to combat that and get passed that and eventually when I know I’m ready it all just flows out.
What’s next for you?
So I’ve been working on some songs in Nashville, that’s going to be some music coming out. I still have some shows here in LA that are happening. I am trying to book an East coast thing going on maybe in December. Hopefully I’ll be touring in a year or so. Working on new music just don’t have any dates for that yet. I am just going to sit and revel in the EP release.
5 Facts that L E A want’s her fans to know about her EP
Jersey Boy is not just about a person it’s about an experience about my hometown kind of going back to my roots and writing the music I used to write in Jersey with my friends.
The first two songs on the EP, “Pebbles” and “Candy Coated” are both based off of Tik Toks. Artists Andy Grahmer and BK did a prompt on Tik Tok and I sang to it and I brought them to my producer Joe and he finished them out. Joe, Kevin and I wrote it together. Not the Jonas Brothers don’t get confused. The EP came about that way.
The EP as a whole was inspired by the Taylor Swift song “‘Tis the Damn Season” I wanted my EP to have the same message that her song had about hometowns and stuff like that.
I would say this is an introduction to my music going a little Rock. I was inspired by Pop when I moved out to LA but I was really into Pop Punk before I moved out here and I think I am slowly going back there. I am going through Alt Pop and eventually I’m going to be going through Alt Pop Pop Punk direction so this is the start of changing my sound up a little bit.
Jersey Boy took me an entire year. The writing of the EP the production, the mixing the graphic design took me an entire calendar year.
